Versace and H&M are making a collaborative effort to launch a joint clothing line for men and women, finally hitting Canadian shores this upcoming Saturday. You may know this by now, especially from my countless tweets on the subject.
But, as a friend reminded me recently, it may actually be the first time many of the guys lining up — and there will be a line up — have a chance to grab a piece of Versace’s just-enough-of-too-much legacy.
For the average young, fashionable and modern guy in his twenty-somethings, it’s normal to drool over pieces by designers who he’ll never be able to afford in the next 5-10 years. Many men like us are just starting our careers, and some paths simply don’t pay enough to create a wardrobe full of bespoke. So we turn to similar, less pricey alternatives, hit trends spot-on and work with what we have.
But just imagine the moment you get your hands on Versace’s black blazer with its mind-blowing lining or the leather jacket ripped straight from a Justice video — not to mention the moment you’ll finally be able to say, “Oh, it’s just Versace.” You may feel like a millionaire for the first time in your life.
I’m looking forward to that feeling this weekend. And you can look forward to a full report from the collection launch sometime next week.
I thought the menswear section would be relatively empty. I was wrong. Reports from Stateside launches indicate women beeline the men’s section… so be prepared to throw ‘bows against chicks with either very lucky boyfriends or decidedly edgy taste. And, if you’re up for the competition, say hi to TGJ at Toronto’s Bloor West Location.
Participating stores all open at 8 a.m. According to H&M Canada’s Twitter:
